Remote simultaneous interpretation during the pandemic

Remote simultaneous interpretation (RSI) is a method that’s been used for quite some time. However, with the advent of the pandemic, its importance climbed exponentially. It met the necessary requirements for enabling communication when face-to-face conversations weren’t possible.

Living in quarantine became quite common, making virtual communication a part of daily life. Society made significant adjustments to connect, commercialize, and communicate across vast distances.

What is Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI)?

RSI is a form of interpretation that involves speech translation without the need for a person, or group of individuals, to be physically present. Thus, traditional interpreting needs, like booths and receivers, aren’t necessary.

Executing this process properly involves some innovative tech. The interpreter can work remotely and the listener can receive the translation in real-time. All that’s required is an internet connection.

Our interpreters are located in virtual booths, in contrast to traditional booths. That’s where they watch and listen, in real-time, to sessions. It’s also the same place where they interpret and coordinate with colleagues.

Remote interfaces are also very convenient. They allow interpreters to experience an event as if they were physically present. Audiences can also participate in the live event, listening to the interpretation in their language through a computer or mobile device.

What are the advantages of RSI?

Great reach: it enables remote deployment of interpretation for new markets and potential audiences.
Multilingual Communication: attendees at international events, like congresses, conferences, or webinars, can receive the content in their native language. This means better understanding and facilitated participation.
Reduced Costs: interpreters don’t have to physically attend an event. This removes lofty costs like travel, accommodation, and the implementation of technical equipment.
Less Technical Complexity: logistics are simplified as a result of not using bulky equipment or utilizing a team of professionals for an installation process.
Multiple Languages:: we offer services in English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French, German, Dutch, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and many others.
World-class Professionals: the community surrounding interpretation has adapted to new needs and now combines face-to-face and virtual services. It does so while maintaining the same quality and excellence in both cases. Our interpreters are accredited professionals and form a part of AIIC, IMIA and AICE.
An Eco-friendly Option: it has a reduced carbon footprint because interpreters and attendees alike don’t require travel or additional equipment, reducing the environmental impact of organizing large events.

When is RSI Needed?

Remote simultaneous interpretation is important in almost all professional fields. It allows and promotes communities around the world to share ideas and knowledge with ease.

Events where RSI is essential:

Conferences: suppose a doctor living abroad needs to attend a conference on surgery in the US, but can’t travel. RSI allows her to attend the event virtually, with a mobile device, and receive content in her native language via remote interpreters.
Webinars: advancements in technology or knowledge in a specific field are easier to share via webinars using RSI, allowing more professionals to stay up to date.
Business Meetings: coordinating or building market strategies with foreign clients is much easier when using RSI. Regional teams can more easily express concerns, desires, and objectives, while all parties get the information in their native language.

Remote simultaneous interpretation is also present in the following events:

  • Product launches
  • Employee training programmes
  • Live broadcasts
  • Interviews
  • Press conferences
